Kathleen Yurwit
Deer-Resistant Garden Design by Kathleen Yurwit, 26 February 2021 On a cold and wintry February day, Karen transported nearly 400 fortunate Zoom participants to a world of beauty, peace, and hope. A wonderful gift during these times of Covid-19. The topic was Deer-Resistant Garden Design, where the design, not the plants, was the all-important feature in limiting deer damage. With gorgeous photos and witty talk, she outlined her eight key design principles and showcased the pleasing results. They ranged from hardscaping, using focal points, choosing effective color palettes, planting in layers, optimizing foliage, utilizing deer-resistant plants (which do not come with a guarantee!), avoiding monocultures, and building deer-barriers with plant materials. It was loaded with design information as well as horticultural information, with practical advice on how to protect your vegetable garden and when and how to spray when needed. All in hour that went so fast. This program was offered by the Community Education Committee of Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County. What an educational and entertaining treat for our members and the public. Karen made it a huge success, and we look forward to working with her in person one of these days.

Nora Sirbaugh
Deer Resistant Design by Nora Sirbaugh, 26 February 2021 In this time of COVID, Karen reached across the US to us in NJ and gave an inspiring and informative online program on designing a gorgeous garden despite the deer. Filled with practical advice and stunning plant choices, the lecture was nonetheless advice on how to achieve a dream garden through intelligent design, compromise and strategies to discourage deer. Engaging and educational, she also displayed a dry wit and humor when underscoring successes and failures when dealing with the wildlife scourge of we NJ gardeners. We loved her program. One attendee commented that it is the best virtual program she has seen to date! Highly recommend Karen!!

Captivating presentation by Susan Mulvihill, 25 February 2021 Last night, I attended Karen's presentation, Creating Captivating Gardens, via Zoom for the virtual Cabin Fever Gardening Symposium. Karen's eye-catching photographs and her spot-on insights into successful landscape design features inspired me. Her observations on the elements that create beauty and intrigue in a garden were just what I needed as I take a more critical look at the landscape my husband and I have created over the years. It was such a joy to see so many pleasing examples of what "works" in special gardens around the world. Karen's presentation was smooth, flowed well, stayed on-topic, and her delivery was extremely enjoyable. Even though this was a Zoom presentation, she did a wonderful job of engaging her audience by asking to respond when she asked a question about experiences members of the audience had. I have been to several of Karen's presentations in the past and they never disappoint!

Inspiring and Wonderful by Eve Choi, 23 February 2021 It was a true joy to have the opportunity to work with Karen Chapman we transitioned her previously scheduled in-person lecture and workshops to live, virtual events through Zoom Webinar. Her experience and skill as a public speaker translated to a virtual format beautifully, and I learned so much through our collaboration on this project. We received an outpouring of positive feedback following the lecture and classes, and this email summarized those sentiments best:

"Just wanted to say thank you for hosting the lecture last night. It was splendid and so enjoyable...Please know how inspiring and helpful I found it to be a part of the zoom presentation. Looking forward to more, almost felt like normal for a short time! I will be so much more mindful of color, texture and combinations for arrangements and plantings in my garden. Wonderful!!"

Karen made her lecture and workshops a meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Deer Resistant Design by Cindy Widmaier, 23 February 2021 I had the pleasure of working with Karen to present this topic in a webinar format. In order to have the best experience for our attendees, she made sure that we "practiced" several times to iron out any kinks. The presentation went flawlessly, on October 7, 2020. Karen is an engaging and interactive speaker, even on Zoom. The topic was fresh and her most recent book, Deer Resistant Design, is a treasure.

New to me — and FABULOUS by Judith Chrysler, 22 February 2021 This speaker previously unknown to me, was fabulous. She was a last minute emergency replacement at the 2021 mix it up conference by Zoom. Over 300 delegates viewed the conference from far away as France. Karen was by far the most engaging, lively and funny speaker that I have viewed on the Zoom platform. I felt a personal connection to her as her virtual persona was very welcoming and attractive. She is the best and oh, did I say...she is an expert at planter designs. I learned many valuable ideas and tips.

Wonderful Ideas by Cheryl H., 10 March 2018 I attended a presentation by Karen last Wednesday night here in Bellingham. I found her positivity infectious and am inspired to create spaces in my garden reflecting foilage more than the blooms. Blooms are important but I learned that the foliage is around a lot longer!
