Excellent Presentation by Lene Symes, 30 September 2021 Karen’s presentation, Touchstones, was excellent (5 stars). Feedback from the audience included these statements:
• "She was engaging, well organized, and with useful explanations and many great photos."
• "What a wonderful presentation for today’s Garden Club meeting! Her frame of reference really changed my way of looking at visiting, not only England, but those bonds of birth - elements of those special places integral to one’s soul in many ways of ‘birth’, seeing things through a new lens. I loved the aspect of the strength a garden can give in its healing nature, resonating on a deeper level."
• "I heard rave reviews. Even my husband watching casually, commented on the quality of her delivery."

Energetic and Artistic! by Cathi Lamoreux, 29 March 2021 I recently was in charge of our recent Master Gardener Virtual Cabin Fever Symposium. Due to Covid, this was a 100% virtual event with live and recorded sessions. Karen was a delight to work with and was very helpful as we learned how to deliver virtual presentations. She was well received by the all the attendees with many positive comments about how she worked art into her garden designs. She also has mastered the "art" of presenting directly to a computer screen and made us feel like we were in the same room with her. She provided the perfect opening and closing sessions for our multi-week event.

Deer Resistant Drama by Catherine Salam, 14 March 2021 Karen was our March speaker for the Annapolis Horticulture Society. She was one of the most organized speakers I have ever engaged for the Society, from initial email contact to contract and Zoom instructions, to advance handouts, to practice session, to the presentation on the evening of our meeting. Note that she does not permit recording of her talk. Our members enjoyed her presentation on Deer Resistant Drama, which was above and beyond a list of plants. She described design principles and how to "think like a deer" in order to minimize deer damage. The garden photography was beautiful as well. I would be interested to see her other presentations.

Lorraine Edmond
You’ll learn even more than you expect by Lorraine Edmond, 3 March 2021 Karen spoke to our garden club in the midst of our February blizzard. Fortunately, we were planning a webinar, anyway, because... you know (2021). Karen had worked with us in advance to get set up, answered numerous technical questions and and joined us for a practice session the week prior. Her presentation went off without a hitch (as far as viewers knew), and our members have been giving it rave reviews ever since. Karen is that perfect combination of knowledgeable, professional, and approachable, and we all learned something useful that day. What many members didn’t know was that power on half the island went off briefly, the 3 other co-hosts were bumped off and had to re-boot their routers and sign back on. Karen was able to carry on without a hitch, giving us many useful ideas and renewed optimism for the coexistence of our gardens and our island deer. (Her books are great, too— I recommend them all.)

Deer-Resistant Garden Design by Kathleen Yurwit, 26 February 2021 On a cold and wintry February day, Karen transported nearly 400 fortunate Zoom participants to a world of beauty, peace, and hope. A wonderful gift during these times of Covid-19. The topic was Deer-Resistant Garden Design, where the design, not the plants, was the all-important feature in limiting deer damage. With gorgeous photos and witty talk, she outlined her eight key design principles and showcased the pleasing results. They ranged from hardscaping, using focal points, choosing effective color palettes, planting in layers, optimizing foliage, utilizing deer-resistant plants (which do not come with a guarantee!), avoiding monocultures, and building deer-barriers with plant materials. It was loaded with design information as well as horticultural information, with practical advice on how to protect your vegetable garden and when and how to spray when needed. All in hour that went so fast. This program was offered by the Community Education Committee of Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County. What an educational and entertaining treat for our members and the public. Karen made it a huge success, and we look forward to working with her in person one of these days.

Filled with practical advice and stunning plant choices, the lecture was nonetheless advice on how to achieve a dream garden through intelligent design, compromise and strategies to discourage deer. Engaging and educational, she also displayed a dry wit and humor when underscoring successes and failures when dealing with the wildlife scourge of we NJ gardeners. We loved her program. Captivating presentation by Susan Mulvihill, 25 February 2021 Last night, I attended Karen's presentation, Creating Captivating Gardens, via Zoom for the virtual Cabin Fever Gardening Symposium. Karen's eye-catching photographs and her spot-on insights into successful landscape design features inspired me. Her observations on the elements that create beauty and intrigue in a garden were just what I needed as I take a more critical look at the landscape my husband and I have created over the years. It was such a joy to see so many pleasing examples of what "works" in special gardens around the world. Karen's presentation was smooth, flowed well, stayed on-topic, and her delivery was extremely enjoyable. Even though this was a Zoom presentation, she did a wonderful job of engaging her audience by asking to respond when she asked a question about experiences members of the audience had. I have been to several of Karen's presentations in the past and they never disappoint!

Fun and informative talk by Nancy Sarpola, 8 March 2017 Karen's talk at the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon was clear and informative with just enough humor to keep it fun. Her slides were beautiful and ideas for mixing foliage plants in the garden usable.

Mixing Foliage by Vanessa Gardner Nagel, 25 January 2017 Karen gave the HPSO in Portland, OR a wonderful presentation on her methods of mixing foliage. Easy enough for beginning gardeners to understand, but interesting enough for experienced garden designers such as myself. Karen's interjection of wry British wit make her talks all the more enjoyable!

Guest Speaker by Karla Pearman, 13 April 2015 Karen Chapman accepted my invitation to be a speaker at the Woodinville Garden Club meeting. Her PowerPoint presentation was on “Foliage First”. It was a fun, interactive, and a very informative presentation. You walk away looking at “foliage” in a whole different light. The garden members were very impressed with Karen’s design creativity, and many members enjoyed the opportunity to buy a signed copy of “Fine Foliage” which Karen, co-authored with Christina Salwitz.

Energizing & Entertaining by Trish, 15 March 2015 I enjoyed Karen's well-paced presentation sponsored by the Poulsbo Garden Club on 3/14 at the library. Today I recopied my notes from the session and thought a few tweaks might be in order. Here they are: have a printed list of all the plants used in the two demo containers. When sharing 'favorite' plants with the group - saying the name only may not be sufficient for learning gardeners like me - and I'm quite sure I wasn't alone. If it's important enough to emphasize with a side story - give us the name! Even the spellings were too quick to accurately record. Humorous, personable and wonderful pictures made for a very inspiring morning. Thank you!

Wonderful speaker by Denise veatman, 15 March 2015 Karen Chapman is a very knowledgable and fun speaker. She gave the Poulsbo Garden club and North Kitsap library a wonderful slide presentation with fun stories and wonderful gardening idea's and tidbits for producing beautiful containers using mostly foilage. She then potted up 2 lovely containers which we sold raffle tickets for and 2 lucky attendees won beautiful containers filled with wonderful plants. A hand out accompanied her slideshow and she stayed on for plenty of extra time for questions and answers as well as signing her wonderful book Fine Foilage. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a fun, knowledgeable speaker for your club or organization.

Excellent by Michael Egan, 7 May 2014 My sister and I took our mother to Epcot on 4/30/14. We were fortunate enough to see Karen's talk on all things foliage. While I don't have a green thumb, I found the presentation very informative and easy to absorb. Karen introduced herself to everyone individually before the presentation began and chatted with my mom afterwards. What stood out to us was her very easy-going but informative style. It felt less like a lecture and more like an informal chat with a friend. She is able to connect with her audience and seem like she's talking TO them, not AT them, as can too often be the case. Three thumbs up from our family.

Best of the Northwest Art in the Garden talk by Pam Rembold, 3 April 2012 Karen Chapman was a delightful presenter at the Best of the Northwest on KOMO 4 Day ~ Her sense of humor and fun was contagious and kept us on the edge of our seats as she potted up a planter while sharing marvelous suggestions on how to create a lovely spectacle of garden art. I have seen so many beautifully created planters, but Karen has a special knack for bringing drama to the pot by incorporating unusually scaled plants with lots of texture and color. Her eye for the fundamental elements of design shone in the large ceramic pot decorated with a gorgeous blown glass piece provided by artist Tracey Vaughn. Karen also discussed how to use art in your garden to create interest, draw visitors into the space and how to use larger pieces to screen your secret gardens for privacy.
