Excellent and Generous Speaker
Karen Chapman was among the speakers October 19, 2021 at a Garden Communications International conference for authors. Her presentation on how she turned her books into several revenue streams was not only enlightening but she also shared the results of her efforts, giving the presentation context for beginning authors. Highly recommend her presentation, she has a wonderful generous spirit!
She’s Multi-Talented and a Pro
As a member of Garden Communicators International, I had the pleasure to hear Karen Chapman present a webinar to authors and would-be authors. Karen's excellent presentation: How to Turn Your Book into a Multi-Faceted Business, was energetic, informative, and inspirational to anyone who wishes to grow their business through passive income, based on their book. She is a real pro and an asset to the organization.

• "What a wonderful presentation for today’s Garden Club meeting! Her frame of reference really changed my way of looking at visiting, not only England, but those bonds of birth - elements of those special places integral to one’s soul in many ways of ‘birth’, seeing things through a new lens. I loved the aspect of the strength a garden can give in its healing nature, resonating on a deeper level."
• "I heard rave reviews. Even my husband watching casually, commented on the quality of her delivery."

Foliage and Focal Points
Karen spoke to everyone in our diverse group of neighborhood gardeners. Received positive comments from many after her zoom presentation.
Foliage and Focal Points
Thank you Karen Chapman for an excellent webinar hosted by the Iowa Arboretum. Your information has inspired me to use more focal points and foliage in the landscape
Foliage & Focal Points – Awesome!
I recently attended Karen's webinar on foliage & focal points. Wow!! She is a fabulous presenter and incredibly knowledgeable & artistic about garden and landscape design.
Her presentation included lovely photography of beautifully designed gardens where she pointed out the specifics of foliage & focal points.

Foliage & Focal Points – Fabulous Design Inspiration!
Karen's presentation on Foliage & Focal Points was terrific. The evaluation reviews have been excellent. This is a sampling of the reviews I have received: "Thanks for a superb webinar yesterday. I got so many ideas from Karen Chapman to address an unattractive patio space in our yard. Can't wait to brainstorm ideas and drawings with my husband."
We look forward to having Karen present another one of her many topics in the future.

Energetic and Artistic!
I recently was in charge of our recent Master Gardener Virtual Cabin Fever Symposium. Due to Covid, this was a 100% virtual event with live and recorded sessions. Karen was a delight to work with and was very helpful as we learned how to deliver virtual presentations. She was well received by the all the attendees with many positive comments about how she worked art into her garden designs. She also has mastered the "art" of presenting directly to a computer screen and made us feel like we were in the same room with her. She provided the perfect opening and closing sessions for our multi-week event.
Deer Resistant Drama
Karen was our March speaker for the Annapolis Horticulture Society. She was one of the most organized speakers I have ever engaged for the Society, from initial email contact to contract and Zoom instructions, to advance handouts, to practice session, to the presentation on the evening of our meeting. Note that she does not permit recording of her talk. Our members enjoyed her presentation on Deer Resistant Drama, which was above and beyond a list of plants. She described design principles and how to "think like a deer" in order to minimize deer damage. The garden photography was beautiful as well. I would be interested to see her other presentations.
Brought a great peace to my heart
I did the ZOOM set-up for Karen's presentation, Creating Captivating Gardens, for the WSU Spokane County Master Gardener Foundation's virtual Cabin Fever Gardening Symposium. Such a pleasure to work with her. My bonus was that I was able to listen in to the presentation, a pure gift!
What a wonderful and peaceful journey we went on. Karen's storytelling and wonderful images settles the cabin fever and soothes the soul. Inspiration? In spades.

You’ll learn even more than you expect
Karen spoke to our garden club in the midst of our February blizzard. Fortunately, we were planning a webinar, anyway, because... you know (2021). Karen had worked with us in advance to get set up, answered numerous technical questions and and joined us for a practice session the week prior. Her presentation went off without a hitch (as far as viewers knew), and our members have been giving it rave reviews ever since. Karen is that perfect combination of knowledgeable, professional, and approachable, and we all learned something useful that day. What many members didn’t know was that power on half the island went off briefly, the 3 other co-hosts were bumped off and had to re-boot their routers and sign back on. Karen was able to carry on without a hitch, giving us many useful ideas and renewed optimism for the coexistence of our gardens and our island deer. (Her books are great, too— I recommend them all.)
Deer-Resistant Garden Design
On a cold and wintry February day, Karen transported nearly 400 fortunate Zoom participants to a world of beauty, peace, and hope. A wonderful gift during these times of Covid-19. The topic was Deer-Resistant Garden Design, where the design, not the plants, was the all-important feature in limiting deer damage. With gorgeous photos and witty talk, she outlined her eight key design principles and showcased the pleasing results. They ranged from hardscaping, using focal points, choosing effective color palettes, planting in layers, optimizing foliage, utilizing deer-resistant plants (which do not come with a guarantee!), avoiding monocultures, and building deer-barriers with plant materials. It was loaded with design information as well as horticultural information, with practical advice on how to protect your vegetable garden and when and how to spray when needed. All in hour that went so fast. This program was offered by the Community Education Committee of Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County. What an educational and entertaining treat for our members and the public. Karen made it a huge success, and we look forward to working with her in person one of these days.
Deer Resistant Design
In this time of COVID, Karen reached across the US to us in NJ and gave an inspiring and informative online program on designing a gorgeous garden despite the deer. Filled with practical advice and stunning plant choices, the lecture was nonetheless advice on how to achieve a dream garden through intelligent design, compromise and strategies to discourage deer. Engaging and educational, she also displayed a dry wit and humor when underscoring successes and failures when dealing with the wildlife scourge of we NJ gardeners. We loved her program. One attendee commented that it is the best virtual program she has seen to date! Highly recommend Karen!!
Captivating presentation
Last night, I attended Karen's presentation, Creating Captivating Gardens, via Zoom for the virtual Cabin Fever Gardening Symposium. Karen's eye-catching photographs and her spot-on insights into successful landscape design features inspired me. Her observations on the elements that create beauty and intrigue in a garden were just what I needed as I take a more critical look at the landscape my husband and I have created over the years. It was such a joy to see so many pleasing examples of what "works" in special gardens around the world. Karen's presentation was smooth, flowed well, stayed on-topic, and her delivery was extremely enjoyable. Even though this was a Zoom presentation, she did a wonderful job of engaging her audience by asking to respond when she asked a question about experiences members of the audience had. I have been to several of Karen's presentations in the past and they never disappoint!
Inspiring and Wonderful
It was a true joy to have the opportunity to work with Karen Chapman we transitioned her previously scheduled in-person lecture and workshops to live, virtual events through Zoom Webinar. Her experience and skill as a public speaker translated to a virtual format beautifully, and I learned so much through our collaboration on this project. We received an outpouring of positive feedback following the lecture and classes, and this email summarized those sentiments best:
"Just wanted to say thank you for hosting the lecture last night. It was splendid and so enjoyable...Please know how inspiring and helpful I found it to be a part of the zoom presentation. Looking forward to more, almost felt like normal for a short time! I will be so much more mindful of color, texture and combinations for arrangements and plantings in my garden. Wonderful!!"
Karen made her lecture and workshops a meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Deer Resistant Design
I had the pleasure of working with Karen to present this topic in a webinar format. In order to have the best experience for our attendees, she made sure that we "practiced" several times to iron out any kinks. The presentation went flawlessly, on October 7, 2020. Karen is an engaging and interactive speaker, even on Zoom. The topic was fresh and her most recent book, Deer Resistant Design, is a treasure.

New to me — and FABULOUS
This speaker previously unknown to me, was fabulous. She was a last minute emergency replacement at the 2021 mix it up conference by Zoom. Over 300 delegates viewed the conference from far away as France. Karen was by far the most engaging, lively and funny speaker that I have viewed on the Zoom platform. I felt a personal connection to her as her virtual persona was very welcoming and attractive. She is the best and oh, did I say...she is an expert at planter designs. I learned many valuable ideas and tips.

Delightful!
Karen is not only extremely knowledgeable about the topics she speaks about, she shares that knowledge in a lighthearted, interesting manner. You're always wondering what she's going to say next! Her images are spot on, and she uses every bit of her time to treat her audience to visual eye candy. I experienced her as a virtual speaker via Zoom, hosted by Fredrick Meijer Gardens, presenting Deer Resistant Design. Although this was not the usual format for her, Karen presented like the true professional she is and I wasn't a bit disappointed in the presentation.
Time Well Spent
The sun was shining, there was a nice breeze; and my garden was calling my name. But I was sitting in front of my computer listening and watching Karen Chapman's classes, Deer-Resistant Drama and The Squish Factor - designing abundant containers. It was time well spent!
Her combination of explanation, illustration (slides) and hand-outs made the time fly by. You know the old saying "Time flies when you're having fun". This was fun -- and informative!

She shared plenty of useful tips for the creating outdoor garden spaces that are functional, attractive, long-lasting and artful. Great speaker
I heard Karen speak about Gardening with Foliage (and focal points) at the US Botanic Garden in Washington DC. She gave a very informative presentation that really opened my eyes to the importance of foliage which can be year round versus flowers which are only temporary.
Engaging and entertaining !!!
Had the opportunity to here Karen speak on creating deer resistant gardens today Ace Hardware and Garden. She was so informative and entertaining that it was an absolutely lovely experience! She is a thoughtful and amazingly talented author, speaker and Designer! 💕
Excellent Instruction
I found Karen's "8 Key Steps to Designing A Deer-Resistant Garden" an excellent and informative class. She provided experience based, extremely comprehensive information in an easy to understand and apply format. I came away feeling "armed" and ready to create gardens with the challenges of deer (and other critters).

Karen presented to our Trilogy Garden club this week-- a wonderful, humorous, interesting show about wonderful gardens in England- through the eyes of someone who knows! makes us want to travel to England...

Foliage First
Karen's ideas are great. She is entertaining and educational throughout her slide show presentation.
Wonderful Ideas
I attended a presentation by Karen last Wednesday night here in Bellingham. I found her positivity infectious and am inspired to create spaces in my garden reflecting foilage more than the blooms. Blooms are important but I learned that the foliage is around a lot longer!
Foliage First
Delightful speaker conveying interesting information. Very helpful handouts. Looking forward to reading Karen’s books. Knowledge of plants and design ideas equal successful presentation.

Tailored her talk for Texas audience
Karen is a true professional who is able to adapt her talks to varied -- and very different -- regions of the country. She was my first out-of-state speaker for my Garden Spark series in Austin, and I was completely satisfied with how she tailored her talk to the interests of our group and the reality of gardening in Texas, compared with her home base in the Pacific NW. She is an engaging speaker with a great sense of humor!
Redmond Garden Club speaker
For our November meeting we had Karen present her "Sassy or Classy" talk on container gardening styles and the many uses of colorful foliage. It was a dynamic talk with a variety of detailed slides and lots of useful plant information, delivered with humour, class and sass!
Keynote Speaker for our Annual Event
The fifteenth annual Master Gardener event here in Dallas, Oregon was delighted to have Karen Chapman as our keynote speaker. She did a presentation and also did a one hour break-out session. Not only did she get rave reviews from our audience, our committee raved too. She went the extra mile in giving us great advice for marketing and also worked with her plant suppliers to give us potted plants as give-aways. Karen is always a delight to work with (this is her second time with us) but she also really goes above and beyond for us as organizers and for her audiences. Stunning photography, humor and enthusiasm all abound. We'll look forward to a third time!
Spokane talk
Karen spoke to our Spokane Garden club in Sept. She was a dynamic, informative speaker and everyone enjoyed her talk very much.
San Diego Hort. presentation
i'm president of SDHS and Karen was wonderful to work with as well as gave a great presentation. Our attendance at the meeting was bit higher than normal and I noticed a lot of San Diego garden designers in the audience. She was definitely in control of the room and able to work with our setup as though she had been there many times. Informative, fun and entertaining.
Karen is truly inspiring…
Karen will make you see your garden from a whole new perspective. She is entertaining as well as knowledgeable. Being a flower buff I tended to ignore the beauty of foliage and she really opened my eyes. The good/bad news is I went home after her talk and repotted and rearraigned things using what I learned. I love the results!
Great speaker!
talked about foliage use in the garden, showing many attractive and inspiring images and explaining why certain plant combinations are beautiful and useful. Her examples included a plant palette suitable to our climate zone, and she did a short demo using live plants (which were given away at the end of the talk) that was excellent and very engaging. I highly recommend her.
Engaging and Informative Speaker
Karen's presentation style is engaging and her knowledge of both plants and design is extensive. She provides specific and concrete ideas regarding plant selection, planting technique and design. These bits of knowledge make it easy for audience members to transfer learning to their own garden projects. Her wit and wisdom make her a gem of a speaker!
Makes Her Design Formula Easy
Karen's talk made her audience feel they could actually duplicate the principles she was teaching. Our club was unanimous in her praise.
Fun and informative talk
Karen's talk at the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon was clear and informative with just enough humor to keep it fun. Her slides were beautiful and ideas for mixing foliage plants in the garden usable.
Mixing Foliage
Karen gave the HPSO in Portland, OR a wonderful presentation on her methods of mixing foliage. Easy enough for beginning gardeners to understand, but interesting enough for experienced garden designers such as myself. Karen's interjection of wry British wit make her talks all the more enjoyable!
Very enjoyable
Karen was the guest speaker today at the HPSO winter lecture and I thoroughly enjoyed her 1 hour talk. I hope to take one of her online classes as a result.
Guest Speaker
Karen Chapman accepted my invitation to be a speaker at the Woodinville Garden Club meeting. Her PowerPoint presentation was on “Foliage First”. It was a fun, interactive, and a very informative presentation. You walk away looking at “foliage” in a whole different light. The garden members were very impressed with Karen’s design creativity, and many members enjoyed the opportunity to buy a signed copy of “Fine Foliage” which Karen, co-authored with Christina Salwitz.
Squish Factor
Karen has done multiple events for me this year and each time I receive wonderful reviews from my guests! She is very professional, well-spoken, and kind. Her designs are amazing and easy to follow. She inspires event the most novice gardeners to get out there and give it a try!
Energizing & Entertaining
I enjoyed Karen's well-paced presentation sponsored by the Poulsbo Garden Club on 3/14 at the library. Today I recopied my notes from the session and thought a few tweaks might be in order. Here they are: have a printed list of all the plants used in the two demo containers. When sharing 'favorite' plants with the group - saying the name only may not be sufficient for learning gardeners like me - and I'm quite sure I wasn't alone. If it's important enough to emphasize with a side story - give us the name! Even the spellings were too quick to accurately record. Humorous, personable and wonderful pictures made for a very inspiring morning. Thank you!
Wonderful speaker
Karen Chapman is a very knowledgable and fun speaker. She gave the Poulsbo Garden club and North Kitsap library a wonderful slide presentation with fun stories and wonderful gardening idea's and tidbits for producing beautiful containers using mostly foilage. She then potted up 2 lovely containers which we sold raffle tickets for and 2 lucky attendees won beautiful containers filled with wonderful plants. A hand out accompanied her slideshow and she stayed on for plenty of extra time for questions and answers as well as signing her wonderful book Fine Foilage. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a fun, knowledgeable speaker for your club or organization.
Everyone enjoyed Karen
Karen stepped into a difficult situation as a substitute speaker, with very short notice. Her attention to detail and professionalism made a seamless transition. She gave two presentations and everyone loved her style. Many have already commented that they are changing things up in their gardens already!
Great speaker
Our NPA neighborhood group in Carnation combined with the North Bend group and engaged Karen as our speaker. Her "Foliage First" was great. Our groups include Master Gardeners, professional horticulturalists, and casual gardeners. We all enjoyed and learned new things. Her book is beautiful and a great resource for inspiration.
Excellent
My sister and I took our mother to Epcot on 4/30/14. We were fortunate enough to see Karen's talk on all things foliage. While I don't have a green thumb, I found the presentation very informative and easy to absorb. Karen introduced herself to everyone individually before the presentation began and chatted with my mom afterwards. What stood out to us was her very easy-going but informative style. It felt less like a lecture and more like an informal chat with a friend. She is able to connect with her audience and seem like she's talking TO them, not AT them, as can too often be the case. Three thumbs up from our family.
Chicago Flower Show
Karen is engaging, incredibly knowledgeable, and has stunning pictures to accompany her talks. A delight!
Fun and Informative!
We had Karen out to speak about luscious leaves in the landscape and containers. Our audience loved her warm humor and beautiful ideas. She was a breath of spring on a chilly day.
Heard Karen Speak
Heard Karen speak yesterday, 3/22/2014, at The Growing Place! She has really inspired me to look at my garden differently this summer! Stayed up all night and read her book Fine Foliage!
Fabulous speaker
Karen knows her stuff. She's engaging, brimming with information and ideas. Andt to top it off, she's got a cute accent. I'd drive far to hear her again.
Karen was “spot on!”
I found Karen Chapman's presentation engaging, entertaining and educational. She has a wonderful way of communicating with the audience and keeping the presentation lively and fun. Her information was pertinent to the specific audience and after the presentation several people commented on how "good" it was. Karen inspires people to grow!
Playful, Clever and Creative
I thoroughly enjoyed Karen's talk this week for the Northwest Horticultural Society. She was a co-presenter and I left being so impressed at her fun, engaging, educational talk. Karen's message is design-focused, plant-focused, and incredibly useful and relevant...not to mention filled with playful elements. Great talk! I recommend her to any garden audience.
Excellent Garden Club Presentation
Karen did a presentation for our Garden Club that held everyone's attention and taught even our "seasoned" gardeners something new. The most frequent comment I got from members was, "Gee, where did you find her?! She was great!" Everyone really loves the book, too. Thank you, Karen.
Cheers for Karen
Karen delighted our audience with her talk about foliage and also lead an afternoon workshop. Both were excellent! She is very professional, on time, and a pleasure to work with. From first contact through the day of the event she was first rate in every regard. Thank you Karen.
Outstanding speaker at Christianson’s Nursery
Karen was a delightful, informative and inspirational speaker at Christianson's Nursery in Mount Vernon, WA. She was at the nursery hours ahead of time to find the right plants and pots for her demonstration; her forethought and organization really showed in her seamless, engaging presentation. Karen is a gem of a speaker; I highly recommend her.
Informative and Inspirational at ProGreen
Karen gave a Got Containers? Get Customers! presentation for an array of green industry professionals at our 2013 ProGreen Expo. She was prepared, thorough and gave numerous tips and insight to our business owners on how to increase their customers and bottom line through well done and inspiring containers, classes, and social media promotions. Definitely a well-received presentation! Thanks Karen!
Speaker Review for Karen Chapman
Karen, spoke at our Snohomish Garden Club meeting, she is such a professional, very knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor, and keeps the audience engaged and interested! I didn't want her presentation to stop! Its easy to see that she loves gardening and people. Excellent speaker!
Best of the Northwest Art in the Garden talk
Karen Chapman was a delightful presenter at the Best of the Northwest on KOMO 4 Day ~ Her sense of humor and fun was contagious and kept us on the edge of our seats as she potted up a planter while sharing marvelous suggestions on how to create a lovely spectacle of garden art. I have seen so many beautifully created planters, but Karen has a special knack for bringing drama to the pot by incorporating unusually scaled plants with lots of texture and color. Her eye for the fundamental elements of design shone in the large ceramic pot decorated with a gorgeous blown glass piece provided by artist Tracey Vaughn. Karen also discussed how to use art in your garden to create interest, draw visitors into the space and how to use larger pieces to screen your secret gardens for privacy.
What a Gracious Speaker!
Karen is such a great pleasure to work with. She is so thoughtful and generous with her knowledge. Her enthusiasm is contagious!
Designing Garden Memories
Karen's beautiful Redmond Garden Club presentation featured "Designing Garden Memories" and what memories they were! She inspired us to craft garden moments throughout our own sites that will make journeys become "aha" moments that continually jog our memories. Artfully created, eloquently spoken and full of design tidbits that provided inspiration to gardeners lusting for a chance to dig in the dead of winter. Karen is a NW garden treasure and we'll have her back again and again to help us create our own club memories!

Karen spoke to our garden club this evening on "Designing Garden Memories." Her power point was filled with carefully selected, detailed photos that were as informative as they were lovely to look at. Her designers' eye and a fun and entertaining delivery style kept us engaged for a solid hour. Very enjoyable! Thank you Karen
Alluring Arrangements
During Karen's recent "Container Garden Design - basics and beyond" seminar, I was entranced by the color, texture & variety of plant material skillfully fashioned into bold containers. She cheerfully added tips & techniques while educating & entertaining with ease. Fascinating designs developed, but more imporantly, Karen's approach entices me to learn more from her. Thank you!
