I have recently attended Kathy's online lectures on Small Tree (and Large Shrubs) for Urban and Small Gardens and one on Fall and Winter gardening. Not only are her lectures informative, but they are interesting as she include facts and information that you may not even connect with gardening (like how trees can deter crime!) She is also well-informed and is able to tailor her talk to information specific to our growing zone. I look forward to more of her lectures in the future.

A fun, information-filled talk
Kathy recently gave a well-attended talk to our garden club on how to grow edibles through the 'cool' seasons. There must have been some very dedicated edibles gardeners in the audience because the talk was quite lively, with many questions thrown out at Kathy. Impressively, there was not one question to which she was not familiar, even if the topic was only tangentially connected to the current slide. Kathy was both able to handle the multiple questions and still go over all her intended slides, and finish on time--quite a remarkable performance!
Getting Your Garden Ready for Spring
Excellent presentation with take home SKA's to do now. For example use "grey water" for shrubs planted last year due to our winter drought. Kathy's handout will guide me to grow vegetables, flowers for three seasons. Her lecture was beyond and above my expectation.

Regionally Adapted Plants
Oct. 24 Kathy spoke about ;Local Gardening: Regionally adapted Plants to an audience at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria. She spoke about definite plants that will work in our gardens throughout the 4 seasons. Her premise that a good plant has 3 seasons of interest and that those are the plants adapted to our area made us all hang on every word she spoke. She answered many questions and looked at NO notes during the entire hour. Several of us were Master Gardeners and often we do not know what is best in this area and we work with a population that is on the move in and out of the DC area. This helped me personally for my garden and as well as ideas when speaking with newcomers to the area.30226

Bravo
Kathy Jentz' talk with slide show has caused me to look at small garden areas in a totally new way. Just the next day, while driving along Tunlaw Road in D.C.,(a road I've driven for 30 years and never particularly noticed much except the houses) I pulled over to admire the small front.
gardens of some row houses. Wow, boxwood bordered by lettuce; tomatoes growing along with flowering plants tiered for maximum variety. Never more will I overlook small space gardening as "too small to be worth it," Thanks, Kathy for your presentation to the garden club.
