We are excited to move into our final phase for the beta version of this site. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to info@greatgardenspeakers.org. We have completed working on reviews and now are focusing on usability. Please see resolved issues below to see what we have added!

We have a couple of important updates for you so please read on!
We are excited to be entering phase 2 of the Great Garden Speakers overhaul. The greatgardenspeakers.com (the old site) has reached its end of life and will be shutting down on Dec 13th. On that day, you will no longer be able to reach the old site at greatgardenspeakers.com.
We are working on adding new review pages for everyone and links on your profiles so that no one needs a login to leave a review. We will have this done by Dec 9th.
On Dec 9th, we will stop collecting reviews from the old site and it will be your responsibility to collect any reviews that remain and add them to your reviews page (linked in your profile) before Dec. 13.

The Garden of Words, and therefore, Great Garden Speakers staff will be on vacation and the office will be closed from December 20, 2021 to January 2, 2022. Any support requests that come in during this time period will be answered beginning Jan 3rd of the new year.

Issue: Review character limit too small
- Description: Character limit for user reviews set to 410.

Issue: Password reset link invalid
- Description: Users reported link in password reset email returned invalid response

- Fix: Contacted host support, issue resolved in 15 min.
Issue: Users can access other users media library
- Description: users need to keep access private for their photo uploads

- Fix: Purchased media library restriction plugin. Users may now only see and access photos they upload while logged in
Issue: Split Botanical Travel, History into separate categories
- Description: Botanical travel and history is too broad a topic

- Fix: Changed category “botanical travel and history to “botanical travel” and added a category called “garden history”
Issue: Talks (posts/listings) won’t delete!
- Description: I am unable to delete a talk (listing). Using the Bulk Actions button to check a box and send to trash is unavailable to me. I need to remove two duplicate talks.

- Fix: Please put any talks that wont delete for you into draft mode and rename them, DELETE. We will then remove them as we try and replicate the issue so we can fix it for you and others!
Issue: Speaker Review migration
- Description: Some speakers are missing reviews

- Description: guests need to log in to leave a review

Idea Box
This is the idea box where users write in suggestions that we discuss. Feel free to add comments below this post if you have ideas.
Idea: Disable comments for all pages and posts by default to avoid spam

- Discussion: My suggestion is – should you perhaps in the overall admin dashboard disable comments on pages?? Something to consider and discuss. Why are they needed? Are they a distraction? Does it invite spam?? For example on my website I allow comments on posts but not pages.
- GGS Response: You may be correct. If we get more people writing in to disable comments we likely use disabled as the default and yes, Katie and team will discuss. I’ll add it to the change log now for tracking and close this ticket.
Idea: Add Third option to format for talks

- Discussion: And, a thought on formats: Right now, you have two categories & they don’t seem to really differentiate each other very well: Virtual or Live. The reality is: a virtual event could be available book as live &/or on-demand. Perhaps consider changing to toggle between Live/in-person, Live/Virtual & Live/On-Demand at some point? (And the reality is, a single talk that’s available to book might be available in all of the formats or only some of them. Can we toggle that way? Once a talk is booked, that booked event would then only toggle one option…or maybe multiple if the venue purchase, for instance a live virtual that is recorded and made available later.)
- GGS Response: We may take a poll to see what other speakers think. Each time we add or change an option, that causes speakers to have to make edits or the choice not to edit their talks. Because it impacts the community, the community may be the best way to decide on fundamental changes.
